Integration of Opposites is the mature answer to being trapped in duality: not choosing one pole and exiling the other, but holding both until their tension becomes creative. Inwardly it is the same movement as shadow integration, and it opens toward non-dual awareness.
Deep roots
This is not vague positivity. Jung placed the coniunctio oppositorum — the union of opposites — at the centre of psychological wholeness, arguing that the psyche grows by integrating what it has split off rather than by picking a favoured half. Taoism says the same in its own key: yin and yang are not enemies but a single pattern, each carrying the seed of the other. The idea has serious intellectual lineage.
Tension, not blending
Integration is not averaging opposites into grey, nor pretending real contradictions don't exist. It is bearing the tension — strength and gentleness, freedom and responsibility, self and other — so that both stay alive and inform each other. Something genuinely new tends to emerge from that held tension that neither pole could produce alone. The capacity to sit with paradox is the skill the whole layer is training.
Opposites are integrated by holding their tension, not dissolving it; the map treats that endurance of paradox as the doorway past the either/or.
