Trapped in Duality is the condition the whole layer works to loosen: a mind so habituated to either/or that every question collapses into two opposing sides. It is the cognitive knot that non-dual awareness unties and that unity beyond duality opens past.
The real habit
Binary framing is a genuine feature of how minds and language work. Splitting the world into opposites — us/them, right/wrong, win/lose — is fast and often useful, and no one escapes it entirely. The trap is not that opposites appear; it is mistaking the two-sided map for the territory, so that a rich field of options flattens into a forced choice between poles.
Both/and, without mush
The way out is not to abolish distinctions — that collapses into a fog where nothing can be said. It is to hold opposites together where reality actually holds them together: to see that a thing can be partly true and partly false, that two goods can conflict, that a person can be both wounded and responsible. This is the discipline of integrating opposites, not of denying them.
Distinctions are real and the binary is often a trap; the map keeps the difference by trading forced either/or for a patient both/and.
