Being Steered vs Steering

Being Steered vs Steering names the polarity at the heart of the layer — passenger or navigator — and resists collapsing it either way, since a life is always some of both.

Layer 07 · Timeline Reality

This thread lives within Timeline Reality — one of twelve interwoven layers of the awakening.

Being Steered vs Steering draws the axis the layer keeps returning to: are you the one at the wheel, or the one being driven? It underlies both taking control of the ship and the larger question of who's in control.

Both are always true

The honest picture is a mixture. You are steered — by biology, upbringing, economics, the designed pull of the systems you move through. You also steer — by what you attend to, refuse, and repeatedly choose. Neither pole is the whole truth, and pretending otherwise is where people get stuck: total helplessness on one side, fantasised total control on the other.

Why the framing matters

The value of naming the axis is that it locates the free move. You can't choose the currents, but you can choose your response to them, and that response is itself a kind of steering. The map treats maturity as widening the band of what you steer while soberly acknowledging what steers you — rather than surrendering the wheel or denying the current.

Steered and steering are not rivals but a ratio, and the awakening work is patiently shifting the ratio — not winning the argument for one side.
